Service Description

Tertulia: Muralistas of Mexico for A2 and B1 level Spanish Students. Mexico's muralist movement is one of Latin America's most distinctive artistic expressions. It emerged in the early 20th century as a response to the social and political changes brought about by the Mexican Revolution. Through grand, thought-provoking murals, artists conveyed powerful narratives about history, identity, and justice, —leaving an indelible mark on Mexican culture. In this four-session tertulia-style course, students will explore, analyze, and discuss the work of Mexico's most influential muralists while practicing Spanish in an engaging and dynamic setting. Before each session, participants will receive carefully selected Spanish materials—readings, videos, and visual references—to prepare for in-depth conversations about the artists and their works. This approach ensures that students enhance their understanding of Mexican muralism, expand their vocabulary, and improve their Spanish communication skills. Course Structure Each session will focus on the artistic legacy of a major muralist: Week 1: José Clemente Orozco Week 2: Diego Rivera Week 3: David Alfaro Siqueiros Week 4: Rufino Tamayo By the end of the course, students will be familiar with these artists' techniques, themes, and historical significance and gain confidence in their ability to express ideas and opinions in Spanish. 📅 Start Date: Tuesday, February 11 ⏰ Time: noon (Central Time) Join us for a rich cultural and linguistic experience where art and conversation deepen your appreciation of Mexican muralism while strengthening your Spanish skills!
