Pintores Oaxaqueños (B2 - C2)
Thursdays 6 pm - Oaxaca Time
Service Description
Tertulia Pintores Oaxaqueños for B2 and above Spanish level Students Oaxaca has long been a cradle of artistic talent, home to painters whose works reflect the region’s rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and deep-rooted traditions. Through a variety of artistic styles and techniques, these painters capture the essence of Oaxaca, offering a window into its history, identity, and social movements. In this five-week tertulia-style course, students will explore the work of five renowned Oaxacan painters from different regions of the state. Through guided discussions, analysis, and interpretation, participants will not only gain insight into each artist’s unique vision but also expand their Spanish vocabulary and improve their conversational skills. Before each session, students will receive carefully selected materials in Spanish—including readings, videos, and artwork—to prepare for engaging discussions about the themes, symbolism, and cultural significance of each painter’s work. Course Structure Each session will focus on a different Oaxacan artist: Week 1: Francisco Toledo (Juchitán – Isthmus of Tehuantepec) Week 2: Fernando Olivera (Oaxaca de Juárez – Central Valleys) Week 3: Rodolfo Morales (Ocotlán de Morelos – Central Valleys) Week 4: Justina Fuentes (Ixtlán de Juárez – Sierra Norte) Week 5: Rufino Tamayo (Oaxaca de Juárez – Central Valleys) 📌 Note: While some of these artists have been studied in previous tertulias, this course will feature new materials and perspectives, offering fresh insights and discussions. 📅 Start Date: Thursday, February 13 ⏰ Time: 6:00 PM Central Time Join us for a unique linguistic and cultural journey where art catalyzes meaningful conversations in Spanish!
